Recently
President Obama made some adjustments to immigration, allowing for undocumented youth to apply for
deferred action. Meaning that those who are under the age of 31 and were
brought into this country illegally or overstayed their visa have an
opportunity to apply for a temporary pass for a two year period and an
opportunity to apply for work authorization. The USCIS explains that, "Deferred action is a
discretionary determination to defer removal action of an individual as an act of
prosecutorial discretion. Deferred action does not confer lawful status upon an
individual"
Although this law
does not create a substantial or lasting solution to the current problem that
many youth face, it is a step in the right direction, it provides
some hope to a brighter future. For those who may be seeking information on the
application process just visit the USCIS website.
